Fran Muse

CSLS Director Fran Muse graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science

in Political Science and Spanish.  She received her Juris Doctor graduating Cum Laude from Campbell University School of Law. Fran has an extensive legal career including the following:

  • Director and Staff Attorney, CSLS, Inc., July 2014 – Present 

  • Law Office of Francina L. Muse, General Practice Law Firm

  • Chatham County Department of Social Services Child Support Enforcement and Adult Protective Services Lawyer

  • NCSU Student Legal Services

  • Assistant Public Defender, Orange and Chatham Counties 

 

Fran exclusively assists our 830+ Registered Student Organizations on campus with their legal needs. She also advises and represents students in many other areas of the law including criminal and traffic matters, consumer issues, contract reviews, and more. 

 ​

​She also serves many roles within our community and is a very active member of our local and State Bar. She is a member of the Ethics Advisory Council of the NC State Bar. She was the President of our District Bar in 2018-2019. She was Co-Chair of the local bar's Mentoring Committee from 2013-2018, which helps to educate and support new attorneys. She has served as the Chair for the District Bar Professionalism CLE Planning Committee since 2015.  She also serves on the Boards of various Campus and Community Councils such as the Orange County Pre-Arrest Diversion program (OCPAD), the Campus and Community Coalition to Address High Risk Drinking,  and the Orange County Dispute Settlement Center.  Fran is on the Executive Board of National Student Legal Services, Inc. In these roles, Fran continues to advocate for the best interest of UNC students.

 

​Fran has served as a Judge with the Orange County Teen Court. She also served as an NCAJ High School Mock Trial Attorney Advisor for seven (7) years, and successfully coached her team to a regional championship every year.

 

​Fran is fluent in Spanish and has a heart for Seville, Spain where she studied for two

years while she was an undergraduate at Carolina. She enjoys attending UNC football games in the Fall, spending time at the beach with family and friends, and traveling whenever she can.  Three of her children attended UNC-Chapel Hill and are now alumni of our great university.
