Fran Muse

Director and Attorney Fran Muse graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Spanish.  She later received her Juris Doctor graduating Cum Laude from Campbell University School of Law in 1990.  Fran has an extensive work experience including the following:

  • Director and Staff Attorney, CSLS, Inc., July 2014 – Present 

  • Law Office of Francina L. Muse, General Practice Law Firm, 2001 – 2014 

  • Chatham County Department of Social Services Child Support Enforcement and Adult Protective Services Lawyer, 2005-2014 

  • NCSU Student Legal Services, 1993 – 2001 

  • Assistant Public Defender, Orange and Chatham Counties, 1990 – 1992 

 

Fran exclusively assists our 826 student groups on campus with their legal needs. She also advises and represents students in many other areas of the law including criminal and traffic matters, consumer issues, contract reviews, and more. 

 

She also serves many roles within our community and is a very active member of the District 18 Bar. She was the President of our District Bar during the 2018-2019 year. She was Co-chair of the local bar's Mentoring Committee from 2013-2018, which helps to educate and support new attorneys. She has served as the Chair for the District Bar Professionalism CLE Planning Committee since 2015. She also serves on the Boards of various Campus and Community Councils such as the Orange County Pre-Arrest Diversion program, the Campus and Community Coalition to Address High Risk Drinking, The Orange County Dispute Settlement Center, and HGAPS (Helping Give Away Psychological Science).  In these roles, Fran continues to advocate for the best interest of UNC students. 

 

Fran serves as a Judge with the Orange County Teen Court. She also served as an NCAJ High School Mock Trial Attorney Advisor from 2005-2012, coaching her team to a regional championship all 7 years. 

 

Fran is fluent in Spanish and has a heart for Seville, Spain where she studied for two years while she was an undergraduate at Carolina; she loves traveling back to Spain any chance that she gets. Three of her children attended UNC-Chapel Hill, and are now alumni of our great university.  Fran enjoys entertaining family and friends in her home, going to movies and concerts at small local venues, UNC football games, traveling to the NC coast and mountains, and visiting major U.S. cities.
